Freya, a tasting-menu restaurant in Detroit's Milwaukee Junction neighborhood has been named Restaurant of the Year for 2024 by Hour Detroit magazine. Freya, and Dragonfly (the lively-colored bar next-door), were designed by DMET in 2019 and completed in 2020. Freya features many unique features such as a fully open thrust-kitchen, a large custom mural conceived and designed by DMET’s Liz Skrisson, and a casual, Nordic-inspired dining room & lounge. Freya and Dragonfly are owned by Sandy Levine and Chef Doug Hewitt, who also own and operate Chartreuse Kitchen & Cocktails in Midtown. Our heart-felt congratulations to everyone at Freya.

FREYA is named one of the top fifty favorite restaurants of 2022 by The New York Times.
Freya is the only Michigan-based restaurant on the New York Times list.
Located at 2929 East Grand Blvd., the 4,000-sf restaurant features an open-kitchen and a relaxed, Nordic inspired dining room and lounge. At the beginning the project, Chef Doug Hewitt asked DMET if it would be possible to design the kitchen and dining room, so it feels like you are at his house. The tasting-menu restaurant has a minimal, yet intimate ambience that pairs well with the intense flavors and gracious service. It’s a space that intentionally places focus on the food and service, and where one is intended to feel at home.
Congratulations Freya on a job well done!
